WHO WE ARE

KIND Conservatory is a nonprofit music academy in downtown Pocatello that expands access to high‑quality music education for youth and families across East Idaho, where options for sustained, advanced music instruction are limited. Our faculty—performing artists with advanced degrees— provide year-round individualized instruction in piano, voice, strings, flute, guitar, and conducting that builds skill, creativity, and confidence.

Each year we serve 60+ students and award $10,000+ in competition prizes and need‑based scholarships to help ensure cost does not limit opportunity.

Signature programs include the GEMS Piano Competition, which draws about 75 participants and 300 audience members from across Idaho; the Certificate of Achievement Exam, which provides measurable goals for growth; and the KIND Casual Ensemble, a volunteer-based community group that connects students and neighbors through music-making.

At our 100‑seat recital hall, we present 30+ public concerts and masterclasses annually, drawing families downtown and strengthening Pocatello’s cultural life. Partnerships with Idaho State University and the Idaho State Civic Symphony connect students with professional mentors, ensembles, and stages.

Why it matters: Research links sustained music study to higher academic achievement and civic engagement. Locally, we see these gains as students become confident performers, active volunteers, and young leaders who enrich East Idaho’s cultural and civic life.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

"Kind" and "Conservatory" aren’t words you usually see together. In the world of classical music, conservatories are often associated with a cold, harsh atmosphere. But at KIND Conservatory, we challenge that stereotype. Yes, mastering classical music demands hard work, but we believe it can be done in an environment of warmth and support.

Kindness here doesn’t mean we lower the bar. It means our instructors guide students with both rigor and compassion. Success in music isn’t just about talent; it’s about the relationship between teacher and student, the dedication to the craft, and the encouragement from both educators and parents.

Our instructors have spent years honing their skills, not just as musicians but as teachers who care about each student’s journey. We focus on building musicianship, but we also prioritize human connection. We invite you to join us at The Kind Conservatory, where the path to excellence is made richer and more joyful together.
